My Plan to secure a better future for the Vale of Clwyd
I am determined to secure a better future for the Vale of Clwyd, making it an even better place to live, work and raise a family. These are the things I will focus on if elected as your Member of Parliament.
- Bringing NHS services in North Wales up to standard
Local people are being let down by NHS services which aren’t fit for purpose. The local health board is in its fourth year of special measures – with no signs of improvement. I’d use my experience of the problems in the local NHS to fight for a turnaround – and press for £1.2bn of new UK Government funding to be spent on the NHS in Wales.
- Getting Brexit done
Following careful thought, I voted to Leave the European Union. We held a referendum and politicians promised to honour the result. The Vale of Clwyd, Wales and the UK all voted to Leave. This issue needs to be resolved. I want to get Brexit done so we can move on and focus on the other priorities that matter to people.
- Tackling crime and boosting the number of police on our streets
Crime and antisocial behaviour need a zero-tolerance approach. It’s criminals who need to be put under pressure, not our communities. I am concerned in particular that behaviour that would not be accepted elsewhere is tolerated in Rhyl Town Centre.
- Turbo-charging our North Wales economy
A positive future for this area with more, better-paid jobs can be based around encouraging business growth. This means investing in better road, rail and digital infrastructure and ensuring generous business rates relief.
- Fighting to keep our blue bins in Denbighshire
The Welsh Government is pressing the County Council to change our recycling system at a cost of £8 million. They propose replacing our popular blue wheelie bins with “trolleyboxes” and reducing black bin collections to just once a month. I believe passionately in recycling and securing a greener, cleaner environment in the Vale of Clwyd, but I think these proposals are daft and unnecessary.
- Opposing controversial Gypsy and Traveller sites and other inappropriate development
The Welsh Government is requesting that Denbighshire County Council provide both residential and transit sites for Gypsy Travellers at a cost of £1.6 million. Possible sites in St Asaph, Denbigh and Rhuallt have been identified. I’ve made a submission to the County Council opposing these controversial proposals. I also believe that we must stop inappropriate overdevelopment of our communities and give local people a say on how our communities grow.
