Welsh Conservative Senedd Candidate for the Vale of Clwyd Cllr Gareth Davies hosted a virtual Business Roundtable Meeting yesterday (February 22nd) with local businesses who have been struggling to receive Covid-19 grant funding from the Welsh Government since December.
An array of businesses from the area joined the meeting, which was also attended by Shadow Economy Minister, Russell George MS, and Small Business Ambassador for Wales, Simon Baynes MP.
Commenting after the meeting Cllr Davies said,
"It was a well attended, informative meeting, attended by self employed driving instructors and businesses in the hospitality and leisure sectors who are anxious for a roadmap out of lockdown and to receive Welsh Government funding to get their livelihoods back on track.
“Some local businesses have received no funding since December and are struggling to survive, pay staff wages, and cover overheads where in comparison businesses in England and Scotland are receiving regular monthly payments and top up grants."
He added:
“The Welsh Labour Government are sitting on £655 million of money received from the UK Government in Covid-19 recovery funding that could be used to save jobs and businesses in the Vale of Clwyd, and people need reassurance and a route out of restrictions to ensure long term stability and prevent job losses in the area.
"I would like to thank all the small businesses in the Vale of Clwyd who attended and contributed to my Business Roundtable Meeting, and I very much hope things improve for them soon."
