Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies has hailed the fact that an independent report to strengthen transport connections between all parts of the UK has understood the needs of North Wales.
The Union Connectivity Review (UCR) was set up to ensure that businesses and individuals have the infrastructure they need to trade, travel and do business across the whole country.
Today the Interim UCR has been published, and James is “extremely pleased” that the transport requirements of North Wales have been acknowledged.
He said:
“In June 2020, the Prime Minister asked Sir Peter Hendy to explore ways in which transport can better connect Britain. Today the interim report has been published and I am extremely pleased that it is so favourable to North Wales. Sir Peter has listened closely to representations made to him by MPs and a whole array of stakeholders.
“The interim report recognises the persistent calls of Growth Track 360 for rail improvements, which can transform the regional economy. There is to be the provision of an initial £20 million to explore the development of projects across the country.
James, who has long been calling for improved rail links between North Wales and Manchester, Liverpool and Crewe, yesterday again highlighted the need for this during a debate in Parliament on last week’s Budget: https://youtu.be/Qhe-fF7N33k
He has arranged to meet rail minister Chris Heaton-Harris, along with Department for Transport officials, later this month to discuss the next steps.
