Vale of Clwyd MP Dr James Davies has welcomed Thursday’s announcement that the HS2 Phase 2a Act has passed into law, enabling the first extension of high speed rail into the North.
The project between the West Midlands and Crewe will open at the same time as Phase 1 and will benefit towns in North Wales earlier than originally planned.
Welcoming the announcement, James said:
“It is great news that the HS2 Phase 2a: High Speed Rail (West Midlands to Crewe) Bill was given Royal Assent this week, cementing in law the UK Government’s commitment to bring the new high-speed railway to the north.
“Companies in North Wales have already delivered work on the HS2 project and Phase 2a will open up thousands more contract opportunities for businesses at a time when they need them most.
“As the Transport Secretary has said, “this vital project is at the heart of the Government’s commitments to build back better from the pandemic, tackle the north-south divide and drive growth across the country.”
“Efforts must now continue to ensure North Wales can best take advantage of this new infrastructure, and I will be doing everything within my power to this end.”
